Energy Intelligence: Tristan Export Solar Installation a Success

Another successful project has been successfully implemented by Energy Intelligence. The client, Tristan Export, based in Woodstock, Cape Town is now the proud owner of a complete solar photovoltaic installation, allowing the company to benefit from having enough power supplied and stored to cater for their needs during load shedding and eliminating their need for a generator, as well as reducing their overall electricity costs. Energy Intelligence helps Public Benefit Organisation to become first grid independent dairy in South Africa

Camphill Village in the Western Cape is a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) which has managed to become South Africa’s first grid-independent dairy. This means that through the implementation of various projects they have managed to produce enough of their own electricity to meet their energy demands and, as a result, are no longer dependent on Eskom/municipal electricity supply.

Feedbacks on the African Eagle project

The sharing economy meets the solar panel industry

The American start up, Yeloha – “the solar sharing network”, has begun to overturn the solar energy sector. Based on Airbnb business model, this new company, with headquarters in Boston (USA), has created a network between Americans with a potential for solar power and Americans willing to use clean energy, but who do not meet the necessary requirements for a viable solar panel installation.

Solar PV projects of plenty in South Africa

Energy supply is on its way to meet energy demand. The government’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) is starting to show some positive results. Indeed, the construction of large solar plants are included in this project, since the government wants to produce 18 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030. Two solar farms have already been completed and provide solar energy to thousands of houses.

How to stimulate the SA rooftop Photovoltaic (PV) market without putting municipalities’ financial stability at risk ?

Today, embedded PV generators are at retail grid parity in South Africa, and are even cost-competitive to alternative new-builds. This competitiveness is due to a combination of drastically reduced prices for PV systems (-70/80%) and significantly increased retail relectricity tariffs (+130/150%) over the last 5 years. (more…)
