Increasing electricity tariffs in great news for solar PV users

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) recently approved a 13% increase of Eskom’s electricity tariffs. This unfortunate but inevitable tariff hike comes as no surprise given Eskom’s significant financial difficulties due to poor governance, rising revenu gap and the belated delivery of the Kusile and Medupi power plants. Nersa announces 13% tariff increase to recover Eskom losses

The National Energy Regulator (Nersa) allowed Eskom to implement a 13% once-off increase on electricity tariffs. This increase will be effective in the first period of 2015. In line with the increase implemented in the past few years, the tariffs were initially set to rise by 8% in 2015. (more…)
